Looking Inward in the Time of Trouble

Joshua 7:1-10

Context : After God assured Joshua of victory and promised to be with Joshua always (Joshua 1:6,9), Israel defeated the fortified city of Jericho but their failure to heed the Lord's commands destroyed them before a miniature city called Ai.
Joshua failed to understand where they had fallen.
Instead of looking inward, Joshua and the elders of Israel resulted to religious rites and questioned God and His Supremacy (Joshua 7:8-9).

 Application
Sometimes, when we find ourselves in life's troubles and trials, we usually become blind to the goodness of God we have received. Instead of looking inward for possible areas where we have fallen, we result to questioning God and challenging His Supremacy,  just as Joshua did.

As genuine children of God,  we must know that our attitude to God in tempting moments is a part of the solution to our problems (Joshua 1:10). Joshua might have failed to control himself due to inexperience,  but Christians must not be inept of God's ways. God's children must learn how to put self under control in tempting moments.  The Bible says that Self control is one of the hallmarks of Christian virtues (2 Pet. 1:5-9). Not the ability to remain calm in the face of trouble alone but also be resilient and keep your cloth on even when you feel hot within the body.

As children of God,  it is imperative that we know his ways and will for our lives and constantly make efforts to understand them daily (Prov.  2:1-5).

Failure to understand how God works is the first step to spiritual ignorance and hypocrisy .

Therefore, let us hold dear to His promises and trust that He who promised is ready to fulfill all His promises in due time.

 Prayer
Father,  give me strength and will to trust You at Your words daily and put myself under control in tempting moments today and always in Jesus name.
